Skopelos gained worldwide fame as the filming location for "Mamma Mia!" and its beaches live up to their cinematic reputation. The island is greener and quieter than neighbouring Skiathos, with pebble beaches backed by dense olive groves and pine forests.

Wind protection on Skopelos is generally good — the island's position behind the Pelion peninsula shields it from the worst northern winds. The south and west coasts offer the calmest swimming, while the east coast can pick up swell from the open Aegean.

Swimming is best from May to October. Skopelos offers a more relaxed alternative to Skiathos — fewer crowds, more dramatic scenery, and beaches that feel genuinely discovered rather than developed.
