Swimming in Leros
Leros is a deeply indented island in the central Dodecanese, its coastline carved into a series of natural bays that create excellent swimming conditions. The island's geography — multiple peninsulas and deep inlets — provides natural wind protection from virtually every direction.
The Meltemi reaches Leros with less intensity than the Cyclades, and the island's bay-rich coastline further dissipates whatever wind arrives. This makes Leros one of the most reliably swimmable islands in the Aegean, even during peak wind season.
Swimming season runs from June to September. Leros is authentic and uncrowded — its beaches won't feature on Instagram, but the swimming conditions are genuinely excellent.
