Swimming in Kos
Kos lies in the southeastern Aegean near the Turkish coast, a flat, fertile island with long sandy beaches and reliable swimming conditions. Its position away from the main Meltemi corridor means winds are generally milder than in the Cyclades, though localised breezes can still affect exposed beaches.
The island's south coast faces the sheltered waters between Kos and the Datca peninsula of Turkey, creating some of the calmest swimming conditions in the Dodecanese. The north coast is slightly more exposed but rarely problematic.
Swimming season runs from May to October. Kos is excellent for families — its beaches are mostly sandy, gently sloping, and well-served with facilities. The warm, shallow waters on the south coast stay comfortable well into October.
