Swimming in Kimolos
Kimolos sits next to Milos, a small volcanic island with a fraction of the visitors but equally impressive beaches. The island's coastline features white chalk cliffs, hidden coves, and waters so clear they seem to glow turquoise from above.
Wind protection varies around the coast, but Kimolos benefits from Milos's bulk blocking some of the Meltemi energy from the north. The south and east coast beaches tend to be calmest, with several offering excellent shelter in natural bays.
Swimming is best from June to September. Kimolos is a day-trip from Milos but deserves longer — its beaches are uncrowded, its tavernas are genuine, and the pace of life here is as slow as the Aegean gets.
