Swimming in Donousa
Donousa is the northernmost of the Small Cyclades, a remote island reached by infrequent ferries. Its isolation is its charm — beaches here feel genuinely undiscovered, with crystal waters and virtually no development beyond a handful of tavernas.
The island's position makes it moderately exposed to the Meltemi, but its south-facing beaches carve out pockets of calm. With only a few hundred permanent residents, Donousa offers a glimpse of what the Cyclades were like before tourism transformed them.
Swimming season runs from June to September. Getting here takes effort, but Donousa rewards you with some of the most unspoiled swimming in the Aegean — beaches where the only footprints are yours.
